About B.E.S.T

The B.E.S.T (Black Entrepreneurship and Skilled Trades) Foundation Program in partnership with Ontario Tech University is a series of customized modules and training specifically designed to guide aspiring entrepreneurs through creating a business in the Skilled Trades industry. The B.E.S.T program aims to prepare the next generation of Black identified entrepreneurs and young business leaders to launch successful businesses in the Skilled Trades. The program streams include automotive, culinary, hospitality, construction, and service.

The first 500 students to complete the modules and pitch receive a micro-credential and Digital Certificate of Completion. A micro-credential is a digitally-recorded recognition of a small, specific skill. It represents evidence of your skills for employers, educators, and peers. Micro-credentials are created with industry, so you can be assured that the skills you are learning are in demand and current.

“700,000 skilled trades workers are expected to retire between 2019 and 2028.”

In the Skilled Trades industry, visible minorities are underrepresented and continue to face discrimination. A more inclusive and diverse trade industry could go a long way in attracting more Black professionals and financially empowering the next generation of Black Canadians.
